Somewhere, in the vast ocean of tripods...

As a beginner, I am absolutely overwhelmed by the sheer volume/selection of tripods out there.

Also, because I'm a beginner, dropping $200+ on a tripod hurts.

Then a friend recommended this tripod and most of the reviews are good.

What say you?

Good luck with that. DSLR's require more than just something that holds a camera. Here's the difference between "one that just holds a camera" and a real tripod.

The specs are nice, and it comes with a ballhead, too. I'd get it.

Re: Somewhere, in the vast ocean of tripods...

I know enough to know that a tripod is something I don't want to be too cheap on. Because it IS holding something that's worth hundreds, if not thousands of dollars, and it's top heavy.

But then again, to shell out $200+ for a Manfrotto is a lot of money especially when a beginner like me doesn't like a whole lot about tripods.

Alright, if this $40 tripod is good enough, I'll get it.

Re: Somewhere, in the vast ocean of tripods...

I know this is an old thread, but wanted to add my 2 cents.
I've had this tripod for a couple years and it's served me well for casual photography tasks.
The plate kind of wobbles a bit now. Not sure if it was always like that or if that developed over time.

Overall though, it's been a good cheap tripod. Would like to swap out the ball head for something better though. The tripod itself is pretty decent for the price.
This is much better than my last cheap tripod.
