Opinions needed: Nikon D3100

I'm looking into getting into photography, Ive been thinking about it for a long time and now I'm finally ready to do it.
I dont want to spend any more that 700 on a starting setup, so Ive been looking around and come to the conclusion that the Nikon D3100 is probably my best option for what I'm looking for (Car shots, action shots, night shots, landscape, macro, occasional video, alot of randomness)

Can anyone with experience chime in on this? I'm pretty sure I've found the right choice but I'm always open to suggestions and advice from people who know more and better than me

Thanks

I had a D3000 and enjoyed it. Just recently sold it for a D90. If I were you I'd look around for a used D90 or something like that. I got mine w/ a 50mm 1.8 prime for 730. Much more flexibility and its better in general. The main problem you'll have with the 3000/3100 is a lot of lenses won't autofocus with it (unless they have a built in motor).

This is the only thing I can find on amazon or ebay that seems like it might be worth actually trying for as far as a D90 goes

http://cgi.ebay.com/Nikon-D90-12-3-M...item2563858453

Except that Im still waiting on securing my new job before I pull the trigger, so unless I can do that in the next couple days then that listing is useless

Check local craigslist listings as well as some photography forums.
