Camera Lens question.

Ok so I'm looking at getting the nikon AF-S DX VR Zoom-NIKKOR
55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED lense
I'm wondering if it's worth the extra 50 bucks for the VR vs the

Re: Camera Lens question.

For image stabilization on a telephoto zoom? Yeah, it's worth $50 for that.

Re: Camera Lens question.

We on the Canon side should be so lucky, IS on our lenses tends to run a much higher premium than $50.

Re: Camera Lens question.

If you can wait, don't pull the trigger on that 55-200 yet...supposedly Nikon will be announcing a 55-300 VR lens pretty soon:

Re: Camera Lens question.

I will tell you now the VR is a MUST, any kind of stabilization nowadays isn't even a question.

With camera gear.. the cheaper you go, the more it shows.
The 55-200 VR was the first lens I got for my camera, until later upgrading to the pro 70 - 200 2.8 VR

I have actually been looking to selling me 55-200 because I don't use it anymore, if you have any interest in buying it from me. It of course has been used but treated the best as possible, no scratches no nothing, after a few years' worth it still appears new.

But at the end of the day.. having that VR has made so many more images possible for me than otherwise.

@DrWebster. Nikon has had a 70-300 VR which is mostly the same thing, yes 55-300 has a little more zoom, but no telling about the glass quality etc.
Let alone price, besides the awkward size of the current 70-300, it is already a $400 piece of glass, the 55-300 no double will be either the same price or a little more, and not really better in any way.
Sure the extra 100mm of zoom may be nice at times.. but honestly, most of the time 200mm is just enough and I shoot sports for my college

If the rumors are true, the 55-300 won't be much bigger than the current 55-200, and the estimated price is going to be about $350.
