Camera Suggestions?

I need a new camera. My Nikon CoolPix L11 is getting old. It's had Coke spilled on it and it's been dropped down a flight of stairs. Still works, though!

I am in the market for a point-and-shoot camera, but I still wanna be able to take relatively good pictures (scenic, car, etc.). I've been looking at this in either red or black: http://www.walmart.com/Canon-Powersh...ed/ip/10980066

Also, I like this: http://www.walmart.com/Nikon-Coolpix...ck/ip/10928327

Any other suggestions? How about these two? Do any of you own these or a variant of them?

Re: Camera Suggestions?

If you are going point and shoot and are hard on cameras, look for the Olympus ones that are indestructable.
I have the Stylus 1030SW. I think they can still be found. And they also make the new ones. I think they are the tough 6000 and the tought 8000.
These cameras can go 33feet under water, be dropped 6 feet, and you can stand on them up to 230lbs. They can be frozen and they can withstand extreme heat. I have had mine since Feb. I am in the military in afghanistan running convoys and doing some crazy stuff. It has been in my pocket NOT IN A CASE OR POUCH, since the day I got here. I wash it in the sink once a week, it has been thrown, ran over by a pickup truck and banged up in my pocket and it still works perfectly. It has scratches chips, dents and the only issue with it is the rear screen. Its not broken, but from taking it in and out of my pocket with sand in my pocket, its all scratched. I wish I had of gotten a screen protector.

This camera rocks and is perfect!!

Under $300, and just average control/features (black and white mode, adjustable exposure and flash, etc.).

I love photography, but I know next to nothing about it. :/

Re: Camera Suggestions?

Get the olympus, you wont be disappointed. I have a Digital SLR as well as 2 point and shoots. Wife has a Casio Exilim, I have the olympus, and we have the Canon XTI. About to upgrade to a 50d. And I will gladly buy another olympus when my wife destroys hers.

Re: Camera Suggestions?

You cannot beat the image quality on a canon point and shoot, BUT if you have kids, or do alot of outdoor activities and want something VERY durable
Olympus sylus Tough 6000 or 8000. Both are freeze, water up to I think 30 feet, shock proof. I think the 8000 is crush proof also and will go deeper in water than the 6000. 8000 is 12mp and 6000 is 10mp MSRP 6000 - around 230.00 8000 around 299
Fuji also makes a decent waterproof camera finepix z33wp MSRP - around $160
As far as canon recommendations:
sd960 - 12mp and video 720p(HD) MSRP 299.99
sd940 - 12mp and video 720p(HD) slightly smaller than the 960 MSRP - 299.99
sd780 - 12mp and video 720p(HD) lens is not wide angle MSRP - 249.99
sd1200 - 10mp no hd video smallest and cheapest MSRP - 199.99
