QUICK : HELP ME DECIDE ---->> 50D or D90

Looking to get a new camera. I usually don't posts threads like this, because I usually like to decide things on my own, but damn I'm torn. I can get the D90 for about $150 less, but that doesn't matter to me.

I've done my research, I've been both a nikon and canon user in the past. I love using both!

Depends on what you want to do later honestly. If this is going to be about as far up the food chain as you want to go, 50D.

If you want to go a little higher, D90.

The 50D in my opinion at least is a better camera then the D90. However, next up the Nikon D300 is a better camera then the Canon D50 is. The 5D MkII is a better camera then the D700 or D3, unless you need really great high ISO noise capability, but the D3x is better then the 5D MkII or 1ds MkIII. Of course, I've never used anything further up the chain then a 40d and a 5d (both briefly) on the Canon side. I have used a D90 and it was nice, but I thought the 40D was at least as good (let alone the 50D).

I do like Nikon's ergonomics better...and I am big in to look and feel with cameras.

I am a bit biased though.. I just love the Canon interface.

I am a Canon fan, but it comes down to personal preference between the two. They both are excellent companies.
I think nikon is more expensive when it comes to lenses tho. Usually the equivalent to L glass is more expensive for Nikon.

One parting thought, with the Canon EOS system, you can adapt almost any number of lenses to work on it with the exception of the old Canon FD lenses and the 4/3rds/Pen lenses. Anything else can basically be adapted. If you want Nikon glass, that can be adapted, Olympus OM, that can be adapted, Pentax K mount, that can be adapted.

Just a thought.

Re: QUICK : HELP ME DECIDE ---->> 50D or D90

tough choice.

imho, canon XXD layout > Noink DXX layout. thumb wheel ftw.

also, canon has a much larger market for used equipment.

noink flash system is much better and the D90 is very feature packed.

If i was starting new, I'd be quite tempted to by a D90....but the T1i carries just as much punch on a smaller platform.

the problem with the camera industry now is everytime you buy somehting, it gets replaced within 6 months.

the 50D will be replaced soon, so if you're patient....the 60D will be BAAAAAALLLLLIN in an out of control fashion

thanks blam! yeah, i've decided to wait.
and you're right every 6 months either there is something new or the price drops dramatically.

With my sister bieng a photgrapher, I have had the opportunity to use the D200, D300, D2x and D3x as well as one Canon (model escapes me.) THe Nikon's feel better in my hands, are more user friendly and feature rich than the Canon I tried. Also, not sure why you would want to adapt a lens rather than just screw it right on. I settled on one of her used D200's and could not be happier.

Re: QUICK : HELP ME DECIDE ---->> 50D or D90

Because some of those lenses are just way better then what Canon, Nikon or a 3rd party make for the system. A few examples leap out at me such as Zeiss glass. A few specialty examples out there as well, for example the Canon wide angles for the most part really just aren't all that great. They ain't shabby, but most other manufacturers make better wide angle lenses.

Size sometimes, some of the old manual focus lenses are tiny in comparison to some of the newer autofocus lenses.
