Why do my photos always come out grainy?

I have an HP Photosmart R707 5.1mp.

I love taking pics but they always come out looking like this, it's very discouraging. Any tips?

+1. That and maybe a longer exposure, but realistically your camera is going to be the limiting factor. The image sensor on point and shoot cameras is just too small to take low noise pictures.

maybe buy a new camera. 10 megapixels is practically standard now-a-days

You want the lowest iso possible, usually it is 100.

+1. unless shooting action shots or in low light, where fast shutter or greater sensitivity is needed.
