I have been having issues with finding the right lense for my Canon G10. I am not sure what would work and what would not, what is best, etc. Can someone help? I have bought the adapter and bought some filters, but thats not what I really want. I want a good lense, but somewhat easy on the pocket.

Re: Lens Suggestions for G10

What do you want the auxilliary lens to do? Wide angle? More telephoto? Macro?

The G10 doesn't have replaceable lens like a dSLR does. So as far as a good lens goes, anything is going to be base lined by the built in zoom. It cannot be better then that lens, only worse.

We will make up an ephemeral performance number, we will call it 90%. Lets say the G10's lens is 90% good. Now stick a wide angle adaptor on there, lets say that by itself is 90% good (not that you can use it all on its own). You have to combine the two to get the final result, your now at 81% good. In this ephemeral system along with reality, nothing is perfect.

Re: Lens Suggestions for G10

Something more of photography lenses, like of something that will screw into the lens adapter or housing of the camera to take good pictures. I am not into the knowledge of photography, but just point and shot. I am looking for something that is a long style and will get me close to a dslr look.

Re: Lens Suggestions for G10

Nothing exists that is an actual auxillary lens that will give you a dSLR 'look'. Also nothing that will give you dSLR quality with an auxilliary lens. The G10 is already pretty close in quality at low ISO to a dSLR, and nothing is going to improve upon that.

Just use the G10 as is. Especially if you don't have a resonable knowledge of photography or don't want to learn, monkeying around is likely just to cost you quality and money.

You need to know what you actually want before looking for things to buy. An SLR look doesn't really narrow it down. Figure out the problem you need solved and then we can look at solving it (the apperance of the camera doesn't fall in to the catagory of problems to solve when it comes to photography).

Oh no, I def. want to learn but I want something more of a crisp image. I studied photography for about a month, and then kinda feel through with other things. I can function around the options of vivid colors, etc, but me taking micro pics, is ok on the G10. What type of lens would be better for that? Just sticking to the normal function? I want something that if I am shooting my car, that the sky will be blue, or the grass is a dark green, etc. I can do that now, but it only offers towards 1 option. I don't know. Maybe should go for something else. I love the camera, but want more I guess.

You can do all that under M mode.

Yea I know. I usually don't use the M feature that much, but have been lately just to try it out which gives me the vivid options.

Re: Lens Suggestions for G10

If you wanted the DSLR "look" why did you purchase the G10????????????
From reading your posts it doesn't seem to me that you have "studied" enough photography or learned how to properly use your camera to its fullest potential. Its a great camera, I own one. I also own a DSLR and often find myself preferring to use the G10 over the DSLR. What exactly are you trying to capture? Also post processing also plays a huge roll with "coloring."

Re: Lens Suggestions for G10

Like I said, I guess I am looking for more then what I have. Piratekitty, some of your pictures that you take look outstanding. Angles, area, color, etc is always great. I try and go for stuff like that, but sometimes I get good pics, others just ok. Or like LaraW's camera pictures. Her camera takes great pics. I like to learn but its difficult when you dont understand a lot of things that involve around it. I am more of a visual person so when I see other peoples pics, I try to see what the max is I can do for pics. I just didnt know if they made lenses or not for the G10 but I guess my ? is answered.
