New Canon T1i (500D) announced

Main features:

- 15.1 Megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor
- Full HD movie recording with HDMI connection for viewing and playback on an HDTV
- ISO 100-3200 (expandable to 12800)
- 3.4 frames per second continuous shooting
- Max. 170 large JPEG images in a single burst
- 3.0 ClearView LCD with Live View mode
- 9-point wide area AF with cross type centre point
- High speed DIGIC 4 performance and superb image quality
- EOS Integrated Cleaning System
- Full compatibility with Canon EF and EF-S lenses and EX-series Speedlites, including new Speedlite 270EX, TS-E 17mm f/4L and TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II

It does HD video somewhat like the 5D II, the 5D II does 1080p @ 30 fps, the T1i will do 1080p @ 20 fps OR 720p @ 30 fps.

It also has that very nice 920,000 pixel rear LCD, makes a HUUUGE difference when reviewing photos. With my 5d2 I can clearly see whether or not a photo is in focus where I want it to be without having to zoom in, and the 500d will share that same lcd.

Re: New Canon T1i (500D) announced

that's technology for you.

Canon should have implemented all that into the 50D imho.

they're releasing this one rush rush it seems and probably because nikon is kicking canon's ass in the technology department and has caught up. they need to compete with the new D90 which imho, is a better buy than the 50D for those just jumping into the market. and im a canon nut hugger.

This one looks really good. I may have to pick this one up when it comes out. Especially for the price of $799 for the body.

NICE, and its not that expensive, considering what it can do.

I would get one if I didn't absolutely hate the Rebel's user interface. It's too mickey mouse for me.

A user on POTN has a theory that all the xxD series numbers that are odd (10D, 30D, 50D) are improvements to the (D60, 20D, 40D). It's been stated that the 60D will be a pretty good jump in improvements over the 50D. Then the 70D will improve on what the 60D faulted on. Does make some sense with how the 50D didn't change much, but added some features that would have been nice on the 40D.

Also, it's been speculated that the 60D "could" have 11-13 cross type AF points. I preferrably don't need that, since I only 2 or 3 now, but it's neat to see the technology they are pumping into these bodies.

Re: New Canon T1i (500D) announced

The price and features is a steal for a entry level camera. If they packed all of this into a xxD body then the 40D and 50D sales would fall off. Canon is smart by keeping all of its users on the edge of their seats, because if this came in a xxD series casing I would be on it.
