First SLR camera?

Alright guys, I've been reading up on SLRs and I'm planning to buy one in the near future... I don't know much about which camera is best and which suits an amateur best. So far, a used Canon xti is on the top of my list. Any suggestions puhhleezzz?

Re: First SLR camera?

I would think the XTI would work. Also the XS and 30D would work as well. You can get all of them relatively cheap on the used market and are good cameras. The XTI and XS feel a little to light in my hand, which is why I ended up with the 40D. I liked having a little more weight in my hand.

Re: First SLR camera?

That is a tough question because a Canon lover would say go with a Canon and a Nikon user would say go with a Nikon and so on.

I love this page and the reviews they give to bodies and lenses
http://www.cameralabs.com/

the guy is really unbias and really good and he will tell you the pros and cons of each body regardless of manufacturer.

I will say give it a try, I always learn a lot of stuff watching his reviews

http://www.photography-on-the.net is a good source for a bunch of information.

As a Canon fan I am biased to say that the Digital Rebel XTi or XSi would make a great first SLR.

Re: First SLR camera?

Are you any closer to the 5D mark II Lara? If my savings works out to plan I'll have enough money for a used 5D around Xmas this year.

Re: First SLR camera?

Didn't you just buy a new camera? LOL.

Anyways, I'm holding off until this summer for the Mark II. I have a lot of expenses with the new car.

Re: First SLR camera?

Yes, in December. That's why if I save enough money I'll have enough to buy a used 5D classic not the mark ii. Good luck modding the new car. It's definitely faster than the standard 3. I'll just have to see if that's the direction I want to go when that time comes.

Re: First SLR camera?

You guys recommend me spending the couple extra bucks and getting the XSi over the XTi?
