Volvo V90 and S90 Polestar Models Could Make 600 HP
Volvo’s Polestar performance tuning division is looking to turn up the heat on both the new S90 and V90.
Volvo R&D chief Peter Mertens confirmed to Motor Trend
that Polestar models for the S90 and V90 are coming and they could pack up to 600 horsepower. What is most impressive is that these cars will use a modified version of Volvo’s 2.0-liter supercharged and turbocharged four-cylinder engine, with some help coming from a hybrid system.
The 2.0-liter engine alone can be cranked up to around 450 hp according to Mertens, while the hybrid system would provide the remaining power. Currently, the electric motor
in the T8 plug-in hybrid models puts out 87 hp, so it would have to be upgraded.
If Volvo hits the 600 hp mark, it will be able to keep up with its rivals from BMW M and Mercedes-AMG, though those brands use turbocharged V8s to achieve the same numbers.
