there essentially is no difference. maybe price and color.

I have the JBR SSP (not with the additional knob) and I don't see how it is adjustable. The plate itself has hard point mounts. I only know of the built in stock cable adjustments which you can do to a bone stock shift mechanism.

As a side note... I never could get it just right. It certainly worked as advertised with shortened shifts but I found it really hard to smoothly and quickly shift from 1-2. I had to baby it from 1-2 and the rest of the gears were great. I noticed that with the drivetrain wind-up with a "spirited" 1-2 shift, I was much more likely to miss but could nail 2-3+
I have the rear mount replaced and shifter bushings. Each of these were GREAT improvements but could never get the short shifter just the way I wanted it with multiple trials in and out of the car. I finally settled on the stock set up with the JBR shift weight.

well i picked up a set (the old non-adjustable) version for $45 from someone on one of the forums. i think i agree with all of you - it's definitely shorter.. by a lot. but it feels still kind of rubbery... like how the stock shifter felt before i replaced the bushings.

wondering if there's any way to address it... doing searched, but doesn't seem to pick up anything

Likewise here, I had the JBR SSP too and I had the similar experience with 1st-2nd, and sometimes 2nd-3rd.

It shorten the shifts by a lot, but it came at a huge cost for me. With 1st-2nd, I had to literally bang it into 2nd. Honestly, it felt like I was wrecking the transmission every time I had to shift into 2nd. Sometimes the same with 3rd too.

The shifts in our MS3 is already pretty short. It's just that, Mazda decided to give us a shifter made for trucks.

I have a TWM short shifter, while it's not "click-like" short like a SSP, it's shortens shifts dramatically.

^^^ I fiddle with it and have pretty much hit up every single configuration. Still felt like I was banging into 1st and 2nd gears.

After a while, I just took it off and agreed with my transmission: that it doesn't necessary need (or want) a SSP.

Also, and I'm not saying this just because I can't get a SSP to work with me, but I didn't like the "short-like-clicks" shifts. I like a fuller "throw", it gives me more confidence during shifts. Having a short shifter is enough for me. It's just that Mazda decided to use a truck lever in the Mazdaspeed 3.

With the SSP, I was never quite sure if I was in gear or not.

Did you use it paired with shifter bushings and a heavier knob? Using any of those 3 seperate imho isn't worth the cost. But will all 3 its a much bigger combined effect. Only gear I have issues with is reverse and I didn't adjust my shifter at all.
