Internally gated GT28's and GT30's can fit, if you buy the proper setup. Check with streetunit and cpe. This forum is lacking on turbo swaps...head over to www_mazda_speed_forums_org (remove the underscores). Much better info over there.

I have personally installed 3 different ATP turbos onto Mazdaspeeds, and they all had severe boost creep problems. However, I think ATP has since fixed this by enlarging the wastegate hole. I lost respect for ATP because of this issue. When ATP was told that their turbine housings were improperly designed, they blamed everyone else. but now look... they finally fixed it!

Check out BNR's turbo upgrades. I helped a buddy install a stage2 after his turbo blew, and 6000 miles later it's still working. His car is completely stock save for this turbo and a CP-E nano, which is surprising that it works so well. If you get one of those ATP turbos, you will need to tune for it.
edit: linky BNR turbo

This forum is lacking on turbo swaps.. and most everything else Mazdaspeed related, which saddens me since I like it here. Know what this forum isn't lacking? A cocksucking douchebag nazi administrator that thinks he knows it all but doesn't know jack shit. When people correct him he gets all butt hurt and bans them. About 90% of the posters over there are just nut swinging sheep that do as their leader does and pretend they know it all. Guess what buddy, I'm moving to cali and I can't wait to see you....

i have to agree with killa cam, i find myself only reading on that forum never really talkin to anyone and contributing cause there so blah lol

also no matter what turbo u get unless it is bone stock k04 make sure you GET TUNED, or atleast have a tuner look at some logs and what not to make sure everything is flowing properly

thats what I did for my friends BNR turbo. The thing is basically a stock turbo anyways, I just made sure boost wasn't spiking like ridiculous or anything, which it wasn't. it performed more or less like a stock turbo.

true, a 35R @ 20psi will flow more air than a K04 @ 20psi ON THIS MOTOR... but with the bnr turbos (excluding stage 3) they are so close to stock i wasn't worried. this car runs pig rich at WOT anyways, more air wouldn't hurt... but your right, at the very least you should datalog it to make sure it isn't going too crazy...

Not always true: a larger turbo is capable of flowing more, it does not mean it will flow more on a given engine. Boost pressure is a measure of how restrictive the intake system is...

How much more boost do you think the stock speed engine can handle reliably?
[/quote]

With a proper tune...no one really knows. There are a few guys at M-S-F running quite a bit of power on stock internals. I've been running the stock K04 at full capacity for months - a conservative power estimate for that would be ~360hp at the crank (~38lbs/min of air). [Boost pressure is not indicative of potential power...its all about airflow.]

38lbs is a lot of boost on a stock engine.

Thats not a pressure figure ;)

thats conservative? lol.. but your right. nobody really knows, since this motor is a ticking time bomb and some people blow at stock boost.. maybe a better questing is what pressure can i run at on a stock turbo without ruining the turbo in a hurry... in that case, i'd say around 18psi on a stock IC. I saw a map for this turbo A LONG TIME AGO and i remember running the calculations and seeing that it's really out of its efficiency range at around 18psi on this engine. hell, it starts heading off the island anywhere above stock pressure. but i'd say 18psi is a good middle ground between more power and keeping your turbo reliable. then again, this all goes to hell since the stock turbo seals can go at anytime regardless of boost pressure. if you are like me, you know you'll be taking that thing out later on anyways so go on and crank that boost!

9.5hp/lb/min of airflow is definitely conservative. A more optimistic figure is 10.5hp/lb/min of airflow. *All that is crank power, though, not at the wheels.* For sure, the stock turbo is getting swapped soon enough. I disagree, though, that the engine is a time bomb. With a proper tune and a person that doesn't drive it into the ground, I am guessing the majority of engines would be as reliable as ever.

go talk to a dealership... ask them how many cx-7's they have come in that are blown lol (almost as many RX8's they see)... i was there the day randy pack's car blew, he was in 2nd gear part throttle going up a hill... the tune had nothing to do with it, he was in closed loop. funky issues seem to happen with this car, and mostly at low rpm\low load.

I'm good man. Did u blow the thing up or what? And how? I'm trying to get things done. Just money Is always the issue haha

no, i totalled it haha i fail... and don't tell me about a lack of money... story of my life
