the cost of getting hair & nails done...

Hello ladies

Another thread in the main lounge prompted me to start this one. It's actually something I've been wondering about for quite some time!

I'm curious how much it costs to get your hair cut and/or colored where you live, and how much you tip, if you do. Also, do you have to tip separately if somebody else shampoos and/or blow dries your hair?

Similarly, I'm wondering how much a manicure/pedicure costs in your area, and how much you tip as well, if you do.

I didn't grow up in the US and have a hard time figuring out how much I should be tipping depending on how much it costs, etc.

(By the way, I don't think I ever introduced myself. I'm Stefanie, 33, living in Boston, MA. Bought my galaxy gray manual sSport hatch in August last year.

As far as tipping, that depends where you go I believe. The guy who does my hair, I don't tip. He washes, cuts, styles, colours - does it all himself. He charges enough, and I haven't tipped in years. He gets my business, and has for 21 years now. Price will depend entirely on where you go and what service you have done.

I don't do mani/pedi, so can't answer your question on pricing.

I do my own hair so no tips

as far as nails, I used to get gels (better than acrylics) and it was about $50 for the set and $20 to get them filled in. Acrylics are cheaper, like $30 for a set and $10-15 for a fill in

I used to dye my own hair, but not anymore. Do you even cut your own hair? Ugh, getting my hair done is so pricey!

What about tipping for the manicure?

I do my own trims but if I need new layers or my bangs cut, I'll go to the salon.

As far as tipping... it's been a long time since I got my nails done... it's bad for your nails on so many levels but I hate when people tell me that something I do is bad so I won't get into it but I think $5-7 is what I would leave.

for me to get a cut, color, and style and an eyebrow wax it's 58, and I tip 22. Anyone who pulls out my facial hair and cuts my hair exactly how I want it, deserves it. (I just hope she doesn't buy chew with it lol)

wow now that's a good deal, and a nice tip

i was just curious if there was like a "standard" percentage for this kind of stuff, similar to when you're at a restaurant..

thx all!

Re: the cost of getting hair & nails done...

When I get my hair done I get highlights and sometimes lowlights depending on the season, color my hair back to my natural color, cut, dry... It runs me anywhere between $250 - $350 and I tip $20 - $40.
