Happy Holidays

I thought it'd be nice to start a thread about the holidays for some random chats about things I know I'm wondering about... like what does everyone think about giving presents to coworkers? Does anyone else feel obligated to do something? My supervisors usually give us something, this year to take the guilt off my mind I'm going to make a bunch of oreo cookie truffles and do decorative gift bag things and give everyone some of those.

How do you all get your shopping done? I bought absolutely everything off amazon this year. (except three things) I had my shopping done by October because we did Christmas with my family at Thanksgiving but last year was my first holiday at work and I ended up getting so busy I had to ship stuff second day air to get it in on time. My family spent it up here in VT last year so instead of stockings I did holiday bags with lots of little stuff and then one big present (well, it ended up more than one but that was the idea).

Also, practical vs. something fun? The husband and I don't see eye to eye on this one. I think that for Christmas it should be about giving people things they want not necessarily need. He's all for giving things that are needed. Under certain cirumstances I agree but I also think that it's much more fun watching people get excited about something that hasn't been on their mind as a must, but something they can enjoy.

Do your sig. others get involved in your shopping? Tony has no idea what people got for the most part but gave good ideas when I got stuck here and there.

How do you eliviate your holiday stress?

I can't wait to hear what you all do, I know that for me it'll be nice to hear from others!

Re: Happy Holidays

i never give co-workers or supervisors gifts. i usually only give gifts to family but this year i can only afford to give to my two nieces and one nephew.

i shop online. if you spend so much usually they'll send it free. amazon is my favorite place to christmas shop.

the stuff i would buy for the adults are always never needed. it was hard for me to come up with a christmas list for my mother and grandmother (they still request a list from me) because if i ever need anything i buy it myself throughout the year.

my husband never gets involved with the shopping. i'm always the brains behind the christmas shopping operation.

eliviate holiday stress by drinking & eating christmas cookies

Re: Happy Holidays

I'm anti-gift this time of year. I hate how this time of year is associated (for the most part) with gifts, rather than the true meaning of the holiday season.

So needless to say, I don't give gifts out - with the exception of my nieces and nephew for Hanukkah.

Re: Happy Holidays

I love how my family and Tony's family does holiday dinners, absolutely everyone gets together and visits and just catches up. We were able to have Thanksgiving with both families this year and I was in family heaven! Christmas will be very quiet, just us and his mother and grandmother but we have a nice dinner planned out.

Re: Happy Holidays

That's what my family does - get together, make Latkes from scratch and play holiday games. That's the true meaning to me.

Re: Happy Holidays

I am SO sick of the gift-giving. I really can't afford it... agh.

I just wish we could eliminate the gifts and just celebrate the season.

Re: Happy Holidays

How far do you all live from your families? We are 5 1/2 hours from my family and 3 from Tonys... Hopefully we'll be right by Tony's family in a month or two.
